12-hour evidence-based training teaches how to determine the reason behind a student’s behavior and then create an action plan for addressing those findings.

Mental Health First Aid

8-hour workshop enhances mental health literacy; teaches signs and impact of addictions and mental health issues; and presents five-step plan to assess and respond to situation, including suicide concerns. Focuses on adult mental health issues.

General public, school personnel, law enforcement and other first responders. nursing home staff, clergy, employers, policymakers and mental health advocates.

Emotional support, crisis intervention and suicide prevention; national or regional calls/chats are directed to Contact as a certified center participating in the national Lifeline network.

PAX Good Behavior Game

Evidence-based, environmental intervention that teachers use in the classroom to reduce off-task behavior, increase attentiveness and improve academic success.

Positive Behavior Strategies for the Classroom

6-hour training focuses on strategies to cultivate a safe classroom environment, foster meaningful teacher-student relationships and reduce negative student behaviors.

A research-based prevention and early intervention program that addresses school adjustment difficulties of identified K-3rd grade students.

Student-Targeted Aggression Replacement Training (START)

12-hour training teaches adults a cognitive-behavioral intervention to improve social skill competence, anger control and moral reasoning skills of chronically aggressive adolescents and young children.

K-12 teachers and other school personnel.

Student Assistance Program

School-based mental health/substance abuse professionals provide on-site consultation, education and counseling services, including assessment, individual, group and crisis counseling, referral and follow-up to students/families.

School sites: Cicero-North Syracuse High School and five Syracuse City high school buildings (Corcoran, Public Service Leadership Academy/Fowler, Henninger, Nottingham and ITC).

Talk Saves Lives: An Introduction to Suicide Prevention

A 60-minute, community-based presentation that covers the general scope of suicide, the research on prevention, and what people can do to fight suicide. Attendees will learn the risk and warning signs of suicide, and how together, we can help prevent it.

Daily phone call from Contact provides reassurance, emotional support, medication reminders.

Central New York senior citizens or other people who are homebound or living alone.

Telephone support after hours

Weekend and evening telephone coverage for various mental health and human services providers.

Available by contract to county or private service providers.

45-50 hour training includes classroom time, phone observation and apprenticing to learn active listening skills for responding to Contact Hotline calls.

Community members; college and graduate students fulfilling internship, service learning or field placement requirements.

Youth Mental Health First Aid (for adults assisting young people)

8-hour workshop enhances mental health literacy; introduces common addiction and mental health challenges of young people, reviews typical adolescent development; teaches five-step plan to assess and respond to situation, including suicide concerns.
