Sudden Infant and Child Death Resource Center (SICD)
Central New York office
The Sudden Infant and Child Death (SICD) Resource Center in Central New York is part of a statewide program. SICD provides education and public awareness programs about measures to reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and other causes of infant and child mortality and support for bereaved families. Services are provided during business hours, Monday – Friday, and are free of charge.

Public awareness and education
Programs and information for professionals and community-based organizations focus on:

  • Causes of infant mortality
  • Recommendations for reducing the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)
  • Best practices for infant safe sleep and infant safety
  • Measures to meet the needs of bereaved families
The center also participates in Child Fatality Review Teams to understand the causes of sudden infant and child death and develop local and statewide awareness and safety campaigns.

SICD also provides support for bereaved families

  • telephone support and referrals for grieving parents and family members
  • grief literature tailored to family needs
  • case consultation with professionals offering support to bereaved families

SICD Resource Center is sponsored by the School of Social Welfare at Stony Brook University with funding from the New York State Department of Health.
