Success Through Early Prevention (STEP) is an alternative education program for third through sixth graders whose behavior significantly interferes with classroom instruction. STEP offers academic and behavioral support to students identified as persistently disobedient and at-risk of being suspended from their school. Short-term participation and limited class size enable children and families to receive necessary supports during STEP and after transitioning back to the home school.
Students completing STEP
- Have a significant decrease in office referrals
- Learn needed academic and behavioral skills to successfully participate in classroom learning
The program is a partnership between Contact Community Services and the Syracuse City School District. The third grade program is housed at LeMoyne Elementary School; fourth grade is at Hughes Magnet School; fifth grade is at Delaware Elementary School and sixth grade at Grant Middle School.
