Schedule for Training
Contact provides 3 types of trainings:
  1. Suicide prevention and mental health
  2. Monthly community trainings
  3. Volunteer training

1. Suicide Prevention and Mental Health
  • Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
    Two-day (approximately 16 hours) intensive, interactive suicide first aid workshop for community members, hotline counselors and other caregivers. The skills can be used on the phone or in person.

    October at Contact
    • Thursday, Oct 22, 2015, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
    • Friday, Oct 23, 2015, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
      You must attend both days
    • The training is free.

    • Classes will be held at Contact Community Services, 6311 Court Street Road, East Syracuse.

  • QPR Gatekeeper Training
    60-90 minute training teaches participants to recognize suicide warning signs, and how to question, persuade and refer someone to help.
    Dates to be announced.

  • safeTALK
    2.5 hour training helps participants identify people who have thoughts of suicide, apply TALK steps (Tell, Ask, Listen, KeepSafe) and connect them with suicide intervention provider.

  • Mental Health First Aid
    8-hour training (two half days) to enhance mental health literacy, decrease stigma of mental health problems, learn how to help a person in crisis.

  • Mental Health First Aid/Youth
    8-hour training (two half days) for adults who interact with youth. Focuses specifically on normal adolescent development and common mental health challenges of youth. Like regular Mental Health First Aid, it also teaches how to help a young person in crisis.

2. Monthly Community Trainings

  • Children 1st
    Six-hour session for separating/divorcing parents
    For information, dates, and registration

  • Anger Management
    Anger management program for adults. Ninety minutes a week for six weeks. You must attend all six sessions to receive a certificate.
    Registration is by phone only.

3. Volunteer Training

  • Hotline Volunteer Training
    Classroom training, observation and apprenticing to become a volunteer on the Contact Hotline. Three-day weekend training fulfills classroom portion of the volunteer training.
    September 11, 12, 13
    • Friday, Sept 11, 9 am to 5 pm
    • Saturday, Sept 12, 9 am to 5 pm
    • Sunday, Sept 13, 9 am to 5 pm

    You must attend all 3 days.
