Primary Project

Grades K-3

A child’s arc toward high school graduation—or dropping out—can begin in the earliest grades. Primary Project is a research-based early intervention program that addresses school adjustment difficulties.

How the Program Works
Children in grades K-3 are screened to identify emerging problems (shyness, anxiety, moodiness, defiance, or problems forming peer relationships) that could interfere with school success. Identified children meet weekly for 12 to 15 weeks with trained child associates for individual play sessions to help them develop their social skills and become more emotionally resilient.

We currently operate Primary Project in the Syracuse and East Syracuse school districts.

Children’s Institute
Primary Project is a best practice program developed by Children’s Institute in Rochester, New York. For more information go to www.childrensinstitute.net/programs/primary-project .

Benefits of Primary Project
Primary Project helps identified students

  • Become more emotionally resilient
  • Improve self-confidence and social skills
  • Improve school adjustment, behavior and learning
