Do teens drink because of peer pressure?
Do movies make getting drunk seem cool?
College and high school students to talk about underage drinking
What do teens think of their peers who drink? What do they think of their peers who abstain? You can ask them at the
Underage Drinking Forum
November 8, 6 pm
Whitney Building, Room 101
Onondaga Community College campus
During the hour-long forum, Teen Talk explores teens’ attitudes, concerns, and habits about alcohol use. Teen Talk, a program of Contact Community Services, Inc., is a weekly web-based radio show by, for and about teens concerning their challenges and choices.
Teen Talk program coordinator Rachel Tarr of Contact Community Services says, "When we talk about alcohol use on our show, teens have strong opinions about the pros and cons of drinking, including questioning why they are old enough to enlist in the military but not old enough to drink." She added, "While Teen Talk encourages open dialog about a broad range of issues our goal is to help teens make good choices. That is what the forum is all about too."
Panelists include mental health and substance abuse counselors and teens from Teen Talk, Alateen and Onondaga Community College. The forum is moderated by Janae Price, a Teen Talk host and student at OCC. It is cosponsored by Contact Community Services, Prevention Network, New York State CSTEP, and Onondaga Community College.
